About a year ago my sister called me in a panic and said, “I have nothing to wear, and I’m supposed to go to a dinner tomorrow night!” This is not the first time I have gotten a call like this from her. In fact, I can honestly say it happens about once every couple of months. Usually we talk through the options in her closet, whether or not she has time to go out and buy something, and what she should try to purchase if she does have time. For this particular crisis, she didn’t have time to go shopping (she has two young boys who are not the most enthusiastic shopping companions), so we were limited to her closet. I told her to text me some pictures of what she might want to wear. She reluctantly agreed, saying she didn’t feel confident about any of the choices in her closet. Within 30 minutes, I was looking at my sister in 5 outfits, and she did have a great outfit option. The only change she needed to make was tucking her shirt into her skirt. It was that simple! Crisis averted, for now…
Fast forward a few months later. My sister and I are having the same “she has nothing to wear” conversation, yet again. She has been shopping, but still is not satisfied. I know she has lots of great options, but she doesn’t believe me. Luckily, I’m close by this time, so I start to look through her closet. In about 2 hours, I go through 40 pieces from her wardrobe and put together 23 new outfits she can wear. Afterwards, I tell her she is not allowed to call me again and say she has nothing to wear!
So, does any of this sound familiar to you? Do you look in your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear? Most people I know answer this question with an enthusiastic “YES!” For years, I have thought about starting a personal styling service, and helping my sister was the tipping point. I knew there were other women out there like my sister who have a full closet, but are only using about 20% of their clothes. I’ve always had friends ask me what to wear or how to incorporate a new style into their wardrobe or text me pictures of outfits and accessories and ask if it looks OK. That is why I founded Twin City Style. I want to be able to help women dress fashionably and feel confident in what they wear.
Yes, I’ve worked in the fashion industry for 20 years, and I have spent a lot of time at market in New York and Atlanta. I certainly know what’s in style and what has been shown on the runways. But, I also know that’s not what someone may need or want to wear. Your personal style is a reflection of your personality and when you dress you need to stay true to that. That concept is the heart of Twin City Style.
Twin City Style offers a variety of services, all of which help women dress in a way that is fashionable while still being true to who they are. We can help you decide which items in your closet need to be purged and which items could be altered for a better fit. Twin City Style can also “shop” in your closet to come up with new outfits by pairing pieces you have never worn together (just like I did for my sister). I don’t want you to buy a whole new wardrobe, but I can identify gaps in what you have and offer suggestions of pieces to add. Twin City Style can even go shopping for you or with you for these new pieces. No matter the service, Twin City Style will change the way you get dressed every morning.
It has been so rewarding to help my clients discover and refine their style, and it is my hope that Twin City Style can put an end to that all too common phrase—“I have nothing to wear!”
